Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) has several noncompetitive scholarships available. These scholarships begin with a 20 ACT and a 3.5 GPA. Students who apply to AUM and meet the criteria will be awarded these scholarships. There is no additional scholarship application to complete. The deadline to apply is April 1.
AUM is also hosting Warhawk Welcome (preview day) for interested students on March 25. Attention Students: Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in dual enrollment opportunities through JSU for the 2017-18 school year should meet in the JHS Lecture Room at 8:30 on Wednesday, March 15. Mrs. Natalie Holt will be here from JSU to provide information concerning JSU Dual Enrollment.
Applications for the YNOT Scholarship are now available. Criteria include a 2.5 or higher GPA and an essay about your future aspirations and the importance of overcoming adversity. Interested students should see the JHS website under “Latest News” or “Counseling & Career Services” then “News” for additional information. Completed applications must be emailed to the YNOT Scholarship Foundation no later than March 24. This date falls during spring break. Be sure to plan ahead to gather transcripts and any other required information well ahead of spring break.
Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in attending the Samford University Minority Youth Science Academy June 25 – 28 should see the JHS website for registration information. This is a four-day residential program offering college preparation and mentoring for outstanding minority high school students who aspire to careers in the sciences. Activities will include hands-on experiments in the sciences, college application counseling, study skills and test preparation, social activities, networking and mentoring, Q&A with minority scientists and college science students.

Our Alabama A&M Admissions Counselor, Cary Watkins, will be at JHS on Tuesday, February 28, at the beginning of 2nd period. Auburn University is hosting several Auburn University Your Major Workshops. These workshops are designed specifically for students attending Auburn University Fall of 2017 and who are unsure of a career path or major. The dance-line and color guard audition interest meeting has been scheduled for Monday, March 6 at 3 PM in the band room. Anyone interested in auditioning needs to attend this meeting.
